Plumstead Manor is an all girls 11-16 comprehensive with a mixed 6th Form Centre (Negus), the largest Post 16 school provider in the London Borough of Greenwich. Plumstead Manor provides excellent education in an environment which enables young women to flourish and to achieve their potential.  We sum this up in our motto “Success and Harmony”.

The school is situated in an imposing building overlooking Plumstead Common on the London/Kent borders but has many characteristics of an inner city school; the area has a large multi-ethnic population, including a high percentage of refugees and socially disadvantaged indigenous families. 33.4% of the students receive free school meals.

The school has good access to London City Airport, via the newly opened Docklands Light Railway station at Woolwich (6 minutes). The DLR also gives access to Canary Wharf (19 minutes) and the Olympic Park at Stratford (19 minutes). Good train links to central London (20 minutes). The school is also well located for road links being near to the M25.

The school population totals approximately 1800, with 1200 girls to KS4, and 600 mixed 6th formers. The Negus 6th Form centre is well established in the local community and its reputation for providing a broad range of courses at all levels taught by highly skilled and experienced teacher is acknowledged by all. Many of our students go on to Higher Education, attain degrees and enjoy rewarding careers.

There are 300 staff members, of whom 171 are teaching staff. Our teachers are backed up by a large, experienced and highly-valued team of pastoral, administrative and technical support staff, and led by a 9-strong Senior Leadership Team.

Over the years Plumstead Manor has developed, improved and achieved remarkable success based on:

  • Good and creative teaching and continuous learning opportunities for teachers, including proven professional development and NQT programmes
  • An innovative and developing curriculum, with academic, vocational and non-traditional courses to meet a range of abilities and interests
  • A positive ethos and supportive environment, reinforced by a skilled pastoral and behaviour management team and a widely-held belief in our students’ potential
  • Good working partnerships with parents and local community groups, with a commitment to extended and supplementary schools, strong links with feeder primaries and partner programmes with neighbouring secondary schools
  • Dedicated, skilled and experienced staff, governors and leadership teams

This success has been confirmed by Ofsted (2009) and by the school’s many achievements covering all aspects of school life, including:

  • A trend of high and improving exam results at SAT, GCSE and A level
  • The award of three distinct specialisms in Performing Arts, Humanities and Applied Learning
  • The best A level Drama results in England and KS4 Dance (Good Schools Guide 2006 and 2007)
  • Leading the Greenwich cluster’s 14-19 Creative and Media Diploma
  • The award of Healthy Schools status
  • Investors in People Award
  • Investors in Careers Award
  • Sportsmark
  • Inclusion Chartermark

Within the next few years the school will be further enhanced by major developments to the school site, through Building Schools for the Future funding.
