Essex is a diverse county providing a wide range of educational opportunities to young people and adults in over 570 establishments in a variety of geographical settings. We have one of the largest school populations in the country with well over 200,000 children. Our schools are varied from primaries in country villages to large secondary schools in major centres like Colchester, Chelmsford, Basildon and Harlow. Our AimsOur aim is to improve the life chances for all children in Essex by raising achievement, developing social and educational inclusion and ensuring the welfare of our young people. Our vision is that every child and young person will have a life of quality, free from fear, depression and danger, with a sense of belonging, worth and achievement. We want young people to develop a love of learning. To achieve this we need teachers of the highest quality, with ability and imagination, who will inspire and challenge our children to achieve their potential and contribute to their changing world. We hope that our teachers will remain life long learners; we encourage and support them to be reflective practitioners. We believe that teachers are entitled to the best Continuing Professional Development (CPD) opportunities available. Essex provides our teachers, schools, children’s centres and other educational settings with a high level of support. Our School Improvement and Early Years Services provide a range of CPD opportunities specifically for newly qualified teachers and advice and support from highly professional staff. Our SEN and Pupils with Additional Needs Services support schools and other educational settings in meeting particular needs and developing inclusive practice. We hope you will take advantage of these when appointed. Visit our website at www.e-gfl.org. Our LocationEssex is ideally placed between the attractions of London and the diverse countryside of East Anglia, and will provide you a base that caters for the widest range of tastes. The County stretches from Constable Country to the Thames Estuary, from the dynamic M11 corridor to the traditional seaside resorts of Clacton and Walton. They encompass England’s oldest recorded town in Colchester and two of its newest in Basildon and Harlow. By contrast, the gentle landscape of the Essex countryside is home to many beautiful historic villages including Finchingfield and Thaxted. Essex is a wonderfully diverse and culturally rich county - and exciting events and festivals take place throughout the year across the County. You can enjoy nationally renowned major events, including the Thaxted Festival and Chelmsford’s famous music event, the “V” Festival. The transport links are another bonus. Stansted Airport which is situated in the West of the County offers direct flights to most of Europe and beyond. There are good road links to the rest of the UK via the M25 and M11. London City Airport is also close by and the port of Harwich offers you an easy way to reach Europe. And the nearby sights, shops and entertainment of London are easily reached by good and frequent rail services from most parts of the County.
